FITNESS FOCUS
Skip the Gym and Build Muscle: 30-Minute Functional Workout for Strength at Home
Fitness trends may come and go, but functional fitness is here to stay, thanks to its ability to strengthen and prepare your body for the demands of today, tomorrow, and beyond.
This type of strength training incorporates a variety of movements—pulling, pushing, bending, and twisting. For example, squatting (similar to sitting down) and deadlifting (like bending to pick up groceries).
Whether you use free weights or just your body weight, functional fitness workouts are designed to mimic the everyday actions your body performs. By focusing on functional fitness, you can prevent injuries, increase strength, and improve your balance and coordination. To help you get started, Michigan-based personal trainer Kaleigh Cohen has put together a 30-minute functional fitness workout that will bring these benefits to your routine.
